Colenso was formed in 1969 and for the last 40 years has built iconic New Zealand brands.
In 2009, Colenso BBDO is the most creative and effective agency in New Zealand.
We have won more international and local creative awards than any other agency, with 85 in the last 12 months. At the same time, we won a record 11 Effies and were named Most Effective Agency in New Zealand, not to mention taking out the Grand Prix at the Asian Marketing Effectiveness Awards, making us the most effective agency in all of Asia Pacific. Not bad at a time when clients are more focused on results than ever.
This is not just one good year for Colenso, we have sustained this effort over the last five years. Since 2004, we are the highest ranked creative agency by independent publication Campaign Brief, whilst at the same time winning more Effies than any other agency with 47.
It’s nice to be recognised with awards, but for us this simply proves our belief that great creative work does great business for our clients.
And we are lucky to work with some of New Zealand’s most iconic brands. Vodafone, Air New Zealand, Fonterra brands like Mainland and Anchor, Frucor brands like V and Mizone, Bluebird, Fisher & Paykel.
Over the past year, important New Zealand businesses have turned to us with their biggest challenges. TVNZ chose us to help them build their brand for the digital future beyond television, DB Breweries handed us their problem child brand Export Gold to totally reinvent and Burger King have asked us to help grow their brand against the might of McDonalds.
You should know some of our famous work. Like the treehouse restaurant we built for Yellow Pages, Vodafone "Fold" where the guy folds his life up and puts it all in his pocket, the remote control monster truck for V, Fresh n Fruity yoghurt with the two giant cranes and wrecking balls in the desert and of course "Tog, togs, togs" for Trumpet. This is the type of work we strive for at Colenso; work that can’t help but be talked about, earning media coverage for the brand and creating a legacy that lives on after the media plan has finished.
We have a strong digital offering at Colenso, having lured some of the best digital talent in the region and fully integrating them into our business. The calibre of our digital work has been recognised by B&T magazine, we are their current Interactive Agency of the Year for Australasia, beating some of Australia’s best known pure-play digital agencies for the title.
In fact, we currently hold all four Agency of the Year titles for New Zealand – NBR, AdMedia, Campaign Brief and another from B&T.
Our goal is to be one of the world’s great creative agencies that just happens to be in Auckland. And we are well on our way to achieving this.
Our Vodafone work is running in 8 markets around the world.
And at the world’s premier creative awards, Cannes, we took home 6 Lions, including the first ever Integrated
Lion for the BBDO Network. This made us the third best performing agency in the BBDO Network, which was recognised as Network of the Year at Cannes for the third straight year.
